Graduate Faculty Council Meeting Minutes: October 30, 2002

The Graduate Faculty Council met jointly with the Graduate Student Senate.

  1. The meeting was called to order at 3:10 P.M. Vice Provost Janet Greger presided.
  2. It was moved, seconded, and passed on a voice vote to approve as distributed the minutes of the 9-25-2002 meeting.
  3. J. Greger noted the availability of videotapes of the recent interactive presentation entitled Research Ethics: How To Have a Dispute Professionally given by C. Kristina Gunsalus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
  4. J. Greger introduced Dana Mcgee, Director of the Office of Diversity and Equity, and Carlian Dawson, Director of Training Programs for the Office of Diversity and Equity. McGee and Dawson spoke on the topic of Diversity in Graduate Education. In particular, they spoke about the mission of and the services provided by the Office of Diversity and Equity as well as The Report of Diversity Action Committee, which was accepted by the Board of Trustees on April 16, 2002. Concerning the latter, the many recommendations contained in the report and the plans and strategies for implementing the various recommendations were highlighted. Several handouts were distributed. The handouts are attached to the file copy of these minutes.
  5. A reception and social hour followed the presentation.
  6. Adjournment was at 5:00 P.M.
