AI Certificate in Business Applications Courses

The AI Certificate in Business Applications requires 12 credits. Students complete one required course and select 9 credits of electives.

Together, the required course and electives give students a flexible path to study foundational AI concepts, business-focused generative AI, advanced AI systems, predictive analytics, statistics, and responsible governance.

Required Course – 3 Credits

GRAD 5300 - Foundations of Artificial Intelligence - 3 Credits: Introductory foundation in artificial intelligence concepts and applications.

Electives – Select 9 Credits

OPIM 5509 – Introduction to Deep Learning - 3 Credits: Explores neural networks and applications involving time series, text, geospatial, and image data.

OPIM 5515 – Generative AI for Business - 3 Credits: Covers generative AI architecture, business applications, prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, agentic systems, and responsible AI use.

OPIM 5517 – Building Advanced Generative AI Systems - 3 Credits: Provides hands-on coding experience in Python and Jupyter Notebooks to build, fine-tune, and deploy advanced generative AI systems.

OPIM 5518 – AI Governance: A Risk Management Framework for Trustworthy and Responsible AI - 3 Credits: Examines AI governance, regulatory compliance, risk management, ethics, transparency, accountability, and societal impact.

OPIM 5603 – Statistics in Business Analytics - 3 Credits: Covers descriptive and inferential statistics, data visualization, probability, hypothesis testing, regression, and analytics software.

OPIM 5604 – Predictive Modeling - 3 Credits: Introduces predictive modeling techniques for business applications, including model design, evaluation, and implementation.

Cost and Financial Information

Graduate Certificate Program Only

Students taking courses in the AI Certificate in Business Applications program pay a comprehensive fee of $1,325 per credit or $3,975 for a 3-credit course. The cost of the 12-credit certificate program is $15,900.

Graduate students who are enrolled in non-approved graduate certificate programs only are not generally eligible to receive Federal Financial Aid, including Federal Direct Student Loan and Graduate PLUS Loan funds.

Students enrolled in these programs may wish to consider UConn’s payment plan or alternative private loan financing.

UConn Graduate Program and a UConn Graduate Certificate

Students matriculated in another UConn graduate program will be billed under the tuition and fee structure associated with their primary program when they add the AI Graduate Certificate.

Graduate students who are seeking a graduate degree and are simultaneously enrolled in a graduate certificate program are often eligible to apply for Federal Financial Aid.
