What is the 3MT® Three Minute Thesis?

Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) celebrates the exciting research conducted by Doctoral students around the world. Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), the competition cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. Presenting in a 3MT® competition increases your capacity to effectively explain your research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to an intelligent non-specialist audience.

How to Compete?

Competitors must be in a UConn Ph.D. program and have completed their qualifying exam to be eligible to compete are allowed one PowerPoint slide, but no other resources or props. Professor Ken Noll from MCB will be hosting two coaching sessions in the library that are open for anyone to attend:

  • Thursday, February 20 1:30PM-3PM in HBL 1102
  • Monday, February 24 1:30PM-3PM in a library space to be determined

What are the Prizes?:

Prizes of professional development funding are awarded to the top three winners of the UConn competition. The first place winner will be the University of Connecticut entry into the Universitas 21 (U21) 3MT international Competition.
